Testing Notes

Testing Goals

Simply put, the goal of the beta program is to determine the needs and habits of PhotoGenic users. The beta has been in use for the better part of the year, and so it is more like production software than many betas. However, it's focus to this point has been on the developer's needs, not the needs of a wider group, and is therefore not feature-complete, more like an alpha release.

Therefore, one of our primary goals is discovering what features you would want to see in PhotoGenic - in both the software, and the website it produces.

Next, we'd like to learn how you use the software. This isn't easy, but from time to time we'll try and find out from you.

Finally, the last big thing we want to know about is what you found easy and intuitive about the software, and what you found hard or incomprehensible. This too we'll be asking.

The Help File

A standard Windows help file has been included with PhotoGenic. It is beyond skeletal, but somewhat short of fully polished. If we achieve our goals of learning how you use the software, and what was easy and hard, then we'll know what to add.

1) We would ask that you first try using the software without reading the help file. We then want to know how far you got.

2) After that, if you're frustrated, read through the first couple pages listed on the 'Welcome' page, and perhaps some of the topics under the 'Concepts' heading. Then try to use the software again. Let us know if it helped.

3) Finally, if you're still stuck on how to do things, and need to know more, read the help file thoroughly. Then, once again, let us know what you haven't been able to figure out.

Where to Next?

Be sure to use the items on the 'Testing' menu in PhotoGenic. They allow you to submit a bug, request enhancements, view the release notes, and other goodies. Of course, feel free to email us any time for whatever reason.
